Hospitality was the cornerstone of culture throughout ancient civilisations like the Babylonians, Orients, Greeks and Egyptians. Hosts welcomed weary travellers with warmth and generosity. They offered food, shelter, and a sense of safety, embodying the essence of gracious hospitality.

At the same time, these civilisations used pictographs to capture literal meaning. Hieroglyphs and calligraphs later emerged to represent more abstract ideas. Words and characters finally elevated language to convey intangible emotions and thoughts.
